Heliatek’s solar films could be used in tinted windows to generate energy, the company has announced. The company is collaborating with different manufacturers of building materials to integrate its solar films into building materials. The transparent solar films might be used in between the sheets of double glazed windows, creating a tinted window look while generating energy.

"Our solar films offer unique and compelling key benefits for all kinds of building integration applications. Thus, our business model is to be the leading supplier of customized solar films to the building and construction material industry. They will integrate our solar films as energy harvesting components into their products," Thibaud Le Séguillon, CEO of Heliatek, commented.

The solar films are convenient for the integration in glass windows because they are ultra thin and the color of the films can be adapted to customers’ needs and requirements. Independent testing facility SGS has confirmed that the cells have an efficiency of 7% at a light transmission level of 23.5%. A 40% transparency is possible for the solar films and Heliatek is positive that they will be able to raise the level of transparency to 50%.
